All things pretty

All girls love all things pretty...

Granted I haven't had anyone call me that (girl) in eons. I'm still young at heart.

Being young at heart gives me the perfect excuse to submit to my OCDs. No point battling it, I figured. Its termed obsessive for a very good reason right?

Every time we're out and about, I find myself uncontrollably drawn to pretty pink strollers (and babies). I can't help a double triple take; When we pass by baby stores, I will, without fail, stride into them to admire their lineup of pink cuties on wheels.

Just for formalities sake, I decided to discuss "the issue" with the hubby before actioning upon it.
Me: "Baby, I think I wanna get a new stroller..."
Hubby: "We already have 3 and Conrad has 1 ass. No, actually, including the one Yati is using like a toy to wheel Conrad around the living room at your parents' place, we have 4)"
Me: "I know, but we really need another stroller. None of those are pretty. You want meimei right? Meimei needs a pretty stroller."
Hubby: *sigh*.....

I had initially wanted to put off the purchase till early 2012. Don't see why right? Fail. You are definitely probably not baby accessories savvy. For european brands like Maclaren, Quinny, Inglesina and Peg Perego, they have seasonal annual updates to their collection of strollers. You know, sorta like Volkswagen Golf and the New 2011 Golf. Makeovers. Facelifts, if you may. Mainly aesthetics, sometimes functional. Well in short, if I had the patience to wait a few more months, the 2011 model will cost maybe 10% less. (so now that iPhone 4S is out, has the iPhone 4 price dropped?)

That didn't happen.

This over-the-top Maclaren (Juicy Couture Edition) was my 1st choice. It is undeniably pretty and sufficiently idiot-proof. Unfortunately, meimei is still a bunch of cells swimming in the depths of hubby's xxxxxxx and I'd feel very guilty subjecting Conrad to such horrors. Other than that, Maclaren is famed for the ease of use of their umbrella strollers and aesthetics. They have plenty of overwhelmingly cute strollers to choose from. But, they have also managed to clip a toddler's fingers off and had to recall a few batches of their strollers.

SO PINK! (this is my alter-ego exclaiming, not me)

Peg Perego Pilko P3 On-track in Peonia was my 2nd choice. This is currently not readily available in Singapore and has to be ordered from Germany. I adored the idea of having a buggy board at the back for an older child. I also liked the very generous canopy and shopping basket. The bumper bar was also another plus over the Maclaren, whose bar had to be purchased separately and needed removal prior collapsing. It might not sound like a whole lot of hassle, but one more step = 50% more work. I'm lazy like that. Of course, if you have an older child, I don't think that'll constitute much of a problem, you can probably skip the bar in total. Both are very sturdy and slightly heavier compared to the Combi. It'll gain more mileage with your babies though. I've seen a 4/5 year old riding comfortably in it. How alarming amazing. I didn't mean on the buggy board.

3rd choice and ultimately what was decided upon (passive voice to disguise the fact this was an unilateral decision). In Lavendar. And more conceivable, for baby boy to be riding in it. This color is sold out at most authorised retailers island-wide. Might also be cause this is not the seasonal poison. (Peg perego is Italian and designing strollers is akin to tearing pages off the runways of Milan) That didn't deter me though. I managed to place an order for it at a smashing low price (ok I'm exaggerating a bit, but it's definitely discounted) even though I had to pay in euros (P3 retails for $758 locally, minus the foot muff and extra-spray stuff).

I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my pretty stroller. It wasn't as pretty as I had wanted but it'll do. For now. I should probably put some thoughts into starting a stroller rental business of some sorts. That way, I can get all the strollers I want without having to deal with those looks of disdain from the hubby. Is that considered moonlighting? =p damn, somebody shut that alter-ego up.

p.s. if anyone's interested in the lobang, gimme a buzz =)

luv,
